Build Your Four Generation Family Tree ..... Access more than 1 billion U.S. Names: Ancestry.com has added at least one database everyday since launching its service in 1997. Today, subscribers can search more than three thousand databases and over 1 billion names. Featured Databases:
- Civil War Research Database: a historic effort to compile and link all available records of common soldiers in the Civil War. It includes state rosters, pension records, and regimental histories of 2.1 million soldiers.
- AGBI: The American Genealogical-Biographical Index contains the equivalent of over two hundred printed volumes and includes millions of records for names that have appeared in printed genealogical records and family histories.
- Great Migration Begins: a collection of biographical sketches profiling immigrants to New England between the years of 1620 and 1633 and provides great detail on nearly nine hundred immigrants to which tens of millions of Americans can trace their roots.
- Get U.S. Census images (500 million names): Ancestry.com is posting scanned and indexed images online from the 1790 U.S. Federal Census to the 1930 U.S. Federal Census. These records, once complete, contain more than 450 million names and will be posted gradually on a weekly basis over the coming months. This information allows researchers to determine family structure, age, residence, occupation, and much more. These records represent the most important and sought-after group of genealogical records in the United States.
- Historical Newspaper Collection: Ancestry.com brings images of original newspapers to home computers with the launch of its Historical Newspapers Subscription. Newspapers are an essential information source for genealogists and historians alike, providing rich contextual information about what life was like at that time and place. See headlines, articles, letters to the editor, obituaries, marriage announcements, even advertisements, from as early as 1850.
The Historical Newspaper collection includes selections from The New York Times (1851-1906) as well as thousands of local and state newspaper pages. The newspaper pages are fully searchable, greatly enhancing the usefulness of this collection for researchers looking for specific names or events. Our newly designed viewer tool makes it easier than ever to view, save, and print your favorite newspaper article.

| Mixed blessing - mostly good March 2, 2006 by Joyce W. (Illinois) I'm a professional genealogist. I used to have to travel a long distance to access many of the records that Ancestry.com has available online such as census records.
I use it on an almost daily basis and don't ever want to be without access to it.

I thought I was buying a month-to-month memebership. The website use agreement references continuous billing and a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual memebership plans. I read more of this review »
