Geocaching.com was created with the sole purpose to promote the new sport of Geocaching. This site was designed and programmed by Jeremy Irish, a web developer and tech guy in the Seattle, Washington area, with the help of Elias Alvord and Bryan Roth.

We consider Geocaching a family oriented sport, and are very concerned about the environmental impact of Geocaching in our world's forests. Any cache that is reported to endanger the environment will be removed from the site.

A Groundspeak Premium Membership is a subscription you can sign up for through Geocaching.com, that allows access to premium features. We'll be honest and say there won't be a bunch of new features available at the beginning. Your membership as a result will be locked in no matter how many new features are introduced in the future. This is to thank you for supporting the continuing operation and maintainence of the Geocaching.com site.

We admit there are currently only a few new features that will be available to you. We will be adding more features for premium users every month, and your subscription will be locked in at a lower price.

• Pocket Queries: This is a great service for people who like to spontaneously geocache, or have limited access to the Internet. As a premium member, you can now download custom queries of geocaches and download them in eBook format to your PDA! You also receive a LOC file of geocaches to upload to your GPS using the freely available EasyGPS software. Queries can be customized to search by cache type, ones you haven't found, caches hidden between dates, and many other alternative search methods. It's like having a copy of Geocaching.com in your pocket. Queries can be generated as often as on a daily basis, and are emailed directly to your in-box.
• MyPop! features in the Groundspeak Forums: In the new forums you will be able to stay up to date on discussions, track specific user posts, and overall keep better informed of the goings on within the Geocaching community.
• Member only caches: Some caches will only be available to premium members. This has been a request of many geocachers who want to put more energy into designing a cache for dedicated geocachers. As the cache owner, you can make any of your caches "subscriber only," so folks will need a subscription to seek it out. (Note: member only caches may not be any better than public geocaches. Each cache is managed by their cache owner.)
• Premium Membership logo: Each premium member will have an icon next to their name indicating that they help support the Geocaching.com site.
• The first to test out new game concepts we're working on. Recently we gave members a first look at the benchmark hunting section before making it available to the rest of the community.
