Mixed blessing - mostly good
I'm a professional genealogist. I used to have to travel a long distance to access many of the records that Ancestry.com has available online such as census records.
I use it on an almost daily basis and don't ever want to be without access to it.

It has its flaws, but I believe that eventually I'm hopeful that the problems will be addressed. There are a huge number of data bases available to help genealogists and just the number is mind boggeling! I think the more there are, the more likely it is that there will be some problems.

If you take the time to wonder around the site and investigate, you will feel a lot of happiness because of what you feel as well as a lot of frustration. It helps to search different ways - not only by name of the individual. Go to the location, such as the county and search by the last name of the person. Many times I found people that way.

They do have a trial. I believe it is 14.95 to try it for a certain period of time.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Be careful when enrolling
Read the user agreement carefully and understand what you are buying!!!!

I thought I was buying a month-to-month memebership. The website use agreement references continuous billing and a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual memebership plans. I was offered a memebership with monthly payments and assumed I was buying a monthly membership.

They tell me I committed to an annual memebership, and that I have to pay for 12 months service that I will not be using.

I'm still not sure what I missed in signing up, that informed me that I was paying monthly for an annual membership commitment, and I certainly don't recall every word I read.

They don't care - whether I want it or not, I've agreed to it, and they do not offer refunds for unused subscription time.

I know very little about genealogy and have been told this is the best site out there. Just be sure you understand what you are committing to.
